What I thought?

What a read! At first I thought that all the details in the book was unnecessary, but as I delve deaper into the book, I could understand why the author chose this route! And I wouldn't have wanted any other way! I loved the parts written from Blake's point of view as you could finally see what the dent means to him and what Elena means to him. I also love the new and improved Blake!! What a dish! Makes me want a Rubicon too! This Blake reminds me of my own dent! I loved, loved, loved this book and am sad to have to wait so long for the next and final one!

What I thought about it?

At first i didn't know what to expect when I started reading SMS. But as I got into the story more I couldn't put it down!A few of the things I knew would happen, or more accurately had theories of what would happen. And I was happy when they came to pass in unexpected ways. It made for a great, un-put-down-able read!

Scarred by Joanne Macgregor

What is it about?

"Life leaves you scarred. Love can make you beautiful."

Seventeen year-old Sloane Munster is trying to reboot her life after a serious car accident left her badly scarred and emotionally traumatized.

Starting her senior year at a new school, she’s delighted to see Luke Naughton, a swimmer whom she once crushed on, in the class in front of her. But when he glares back at her with disgust and revulsion, she’s shocked and hurt, and assumes it’s because of her appearance. Despite misunderstandings, the chemistry between them sparks and love grows against a background of guilt, secrets, and mounting tensions at a school where bullying is rife and Sloane is not the most deeply scarred person.

Sharp with bittersweet humor, Scarred is an intense, beautiful, compelling story of life, death and fighting for love against all the odds

What I thought of it?

As soon as I started reading this story, I found it different in the way a normal YA would be written. Present time brings about a new look into the genre and I have to say that it is refreshing.
I loved the mature perspective of the injured (physically, mentally and emotionally) Sloane, with her wild personality and odd behaviours. Reminds me of my younger self. The character of Luke is a real puzzle in the beginning and the small parts of his view shows a bit about his character but also remains mysterious.
Some things I found predictable but only a few paragraphs before it happens.
I also did not expect the end.
The author captured the teenage reality of school beautifully and I know that there are teenagers (and YA enthusiasts) that would relate to some if not most of the story

What I thought of it?

Firstly... Why??? why did you have to do this to us? I have fallen and fallen hard for this story and these characters! It's beyond what I expected it to be. The romance reminded me of days way back when and it hit home most of the time.
Now I have to wait who knows how long for the next one and I don't know if my heart can bare it!
Well done I.W.

  • What is it about?
Mr. Sandman, send me a dream, ta da da da…..Seventeen year old
Chastity Blake knows the Sandman is just a silly children’s story parents tell their children to get them to sleep. At least she thought it was, until the day a mysterious, light golden sand appeared in her hands during a high school prank that went horribly wrong. A sand that has the power to send anyone it touches into a deep, sound sleep.

Fearing she had lost her mind, Chastity soon discovers the shocking
truth of her heritage – she is a Dream Caster. Chastity was never supposed to be raised on the Domain, or what humans call Earth and she is forced to return to her true birth place, Revera – the world of Dreams.

However, in Revera there is no balance between good, the Light
Casters, and darkness, the Shadow Casters, and Chastity is caught square in the middle. She soon learns that there is no place for anyone containing both the light and the darkness within them, and the shocking truth that if anyone in Revera ever discovered her shadow self, Chastity would be thrown into the Oblivion – the world of Nightmares.

Dreams are always more than they seem, and this time Chastity is
going to discover just how different they can be.

I have to say, the idea of being able to wield golden sand in a way only the sandman can, brings bout a very interesting read. The main character of Chas is more my type of person, being light and dark and all round sarcastic good girl.
Even when the story at times seemed to be dragging, there was never a dull moment.
Can't wait to read nr 2 in the series. Well done Adrienne!
